Scandi-Lous: A Fashion Mixer At Abreeza Mall

Last Sunday, January 24, 2016, I had another sneak peek of 2016’s fashion trends and a closer look at Scandinavian Style at Scandi-Lous: A Fashion Mixer courtesy of the most sought after brands in Abreeza Mall, namely Debenhams, Dorothy Perkins, GAP, Mango, Marks & Spencer, and Promod. It was another exciting day for me as I was going to the event with my blogger friend Yellie of theyellowtrail.com and was totally looking forward to seeing the trends together with other bloggers and designers.

Welcoming us to the event was a basketful of tokens inspired by Pantone Color Institute’s Colors of the year 2016, Rose Quartz and Serenity and also creations from Davao’s elite designers: Andi Amora, Aztec Barba, Bamba Limon, Benjie Panizales, Dodjie Batu, Edgar Buyan, Egay Ayag, Emi Englis, Junie Artajo, Lala Luz, Lauren Arriola, Tzardy Tombo, Windell Mira, and Xioti Chiu.  The softness of Rose Quartz and the calmness of Serenity was such a wonderful way to open this month’s Fashion Mixer at Abreeza Mall.

There was also a mini fashion show with the models wearing the above mentioned brands. Among my favorite looks were the striped number from Mango, the hippie-boho outfit from Promod, and the denim and maxi dress combination from GAP.

Just when we thought the event couldn’t get any better than it already was, we all had the privilege to meet L’Officiel Manila’s editor-in-chief, Pam Quinones and Fashion Consultant to L’Officiel Manila, Philippa Andren. After the mini fashion show, Pam and Philippa shared with us their insights on Pantone’s colors of the year, Scandinavian Fashion and of course this year’s fashion trends. Pam opened up about how Pantone chose Rose Quartz and Serenity and not just one color for this year, because these colors work perfectly together and somehow give us a sense of peace in the most stressful and trying times that the world has exposed us to lately.

Along with the need for calmer and softer colors, is also the need for comfortable fashion and this is where Scandinavian fashion emerges. Pam and Philippa emphasized on how everyone may have a different perspective on what Scandi Fashion is. Back in the early 2000s, everyone was obsessed with showing of their curves which meant tight clothing and skin-baring pieces. But this year with Scandi Fashion, we give importance to comfortable and mostly loose silhouettes and simple but detailed pieces like what Pam is wearing.

I wanted to give a nod to Scandi Fashion that day and somehow did my little research prior to going to the event. I went with a safer black and white combination and a loose top and bottom. I finished my look off with a fedora to complement the intricate detail of my top.

After the very insightful talk, we had the chance to have our photos taken with the famous stylist to the stars, Pam Quinones and Fashion Consultant, Philippa Andren. What a stylish way to celebrate my Sunday! Many thanks to Abreeza Mall!
