Day One – Summer at Eden

POTATO While everyone else was spending a hot, hot summer in different beaches, there I was with my SoleSisters enjoying one of the coolest summers of our lives at one of the coolest places in Davao City. Eden Nature Park and Resort was one of our places-to-be this summer, just so we could get away from the crazy heat of the city and bond with no worries about any due paper work like we used to in college. Two of my college years were mostly spent with these ladies. We were all classmates from third year till fourth year. These girls were my ultimate group mates with almost every project or requirement I’ve ever had in school. Our first ever project together in our third year in college was called “SoleSisters’ Customized Espadrilles”. And since then, our friendship grew and we all referred to ourselves as, SoleSisters. (We never changed the “Sole” to “Soul” because we didn’t feel like it. Well, if you were wondering.) Now going back to our day one adventures at Eden. Our check-in time was around 2pm but we arrived at around 3. We were running a bit late but so far things were going well. While we were waiting for our room to be prepared, we dropped by the souvenir shop, the Vista Restaurant and the Day Tour Center and took lots of pictures! It was around 4pm already and all the activities like horseback riding, fishing, the zip line, etc. was already closed. Still, we were lucky enough to book ourselves for the day tour and we were beyond excited! I’ve been on Eden’s...

Graduation Feels

POTATO I will do my graduation drama in two parts. This is the account of the first. If you just graduated like I did a few days ago, and we happen to be in the same school, I know you felt your heart sing when you read the title of this blog post. Come on now, admit it. You sang the last line of our graduation song in the highest key, didn’t ‘cha? Lol. Well that’s good at least I’m not alone. It’s kind of funny how things happen in a flash. It’s funny because you find yourself enjoying one moment and then jump to the next like magic. It’s funny because sometimes, you still want to enjoy that one moment but you don’t get to because if you don’t jump to the next you’ll miss the potential joy it may bring you. But the funniest thing of all is that I’m saying that this is all funny but I’m not even laughing. I don’t doubt that you aren’t laughing either. Anyway, these kinds of moments are the moments we cherish. Moments like serving your last university mass and being hooded and acknowledged as a student of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Okay, you got me there. I guess that wasn’t a good segue. I’m really not good at telling jokes. Four years ago, I remember myself asking my FYDP Guide or First year Development Program Guide where I can sign up as a mass server, and a few days ago, just like magic, I was down to my last time to serve as a college student. And I...

Third Time’s The Charm | SAMAHAN Awards 2013

POTATO Last night I attended the SAMAHAN Awards night with my fellow constitutional commissioners. I was nominated for the award of the Most Outstanding SAMAHAN Constitutional Commission Officer (Whew! That was long!) and it was such an honor for me to just even be there. If you’re thinking that the title of this post means that it’s been the third time that I got nominated and since it is the third time, you’re thinking that it means I had my lucky strike last night and won the award? Well.. not exactly. This is actually my first time to be nominated for such an award but what wasn’t a first time for me was to wear this vintage dress. It used to be my mom’s and I had it tailored to fit me since it was a little big on me. Voila! Now it fits me like a glove! 😉 The first time I wore this dress was way back in my second year in college. I hosted and attended my close friend Eloisa Ramirez’ 18th birthday. You can see me wearing it with a pony tail, red lipstick, black heels and black accessories. The second time I wore this dress was last year when I flew to Cebu City to attend my former teacher turned Ate, Mela Enricuso’s wedding. That time, I wanted to have a more romantic, demure take on the dress since it’s a wedding I’m going to. So I chose to wear it with a nude, sort of peachy shade lipstick, pearl statement necklace, a simple cuff and nude heels. This time around, I wanted to have a more...

Bloom Like Her

POTATO I know the month of February just ended and I know it seems a little bit too late for me to write stuff about prom season, but this blog post is happening anyway! Last February 22, my little sister Frances went to her juniors’ and seniors’ prom. And let me tell you, she looked absolutely great! I wasn’t able to see her in person that day though because I was away for a debate competition in Cagayan de Oro. But even if I was left with only these photos to really see her on her last prom, it was all enough for me to conclude that it was a fun and fabulous time for her indeed! Before I left, I had to make sure that she had just the right accessories and of course the right make-up artist. There was only one person in my mind. This person has been doing my make-up and hair for as long as I can remember. Thank you God for putting Py Truzan in my life! He did such a great job! My sister looked like a chic version of Barbie in that Fairytopia movie. 😉 After how many years, my high school finally decided to drop the tradition of letting every girl wear gowns to prom. The fabulous cocktail dress era has finally come! And my sister chose the perfect dress to wear. Aside from the sweetheart cut bodice and the transition of the pink colors in her skirt, I will forever love the collar necklace she wore with her dress. What a nice touch to the whole look don’t you think?...

Me And My Lovee With the Double ‘E’

POTATO Have you ever met someone, or seen someone for the very first time and you immediately concluded very silently in your head (very silently that even your head had a hard time hearing your so-called conclusion) that you would really, really (and I put great emphasis on the “really”), and without any shadow of a doubt, be good friends with that person? And have you ever had that wonderful moment wherein that conclusion you made a while back really, really and without any shadow of a doubt, happened, unfolded, materialized, transpired before your very eyes? And (I promise this is the last. Haha!) have you ever had the pleasure of knowing that that very same person whom you can now say is a very good friend of yours, also felt the same way about you the very first time he/she saw you? Well, I haven’t. I’m just kidding of course! Would I even put too much unnecessary effort on such a meaningful intro if I wasn’t kidding? Lol. Probably still.  With all seriousness now, I met this person during my first year in college. I had this sort of Lady Gaga bob cut with the bangs back then and was my “all-girly” self, and she was this boyish, pretty girl in her shirt, jeans and sneakers, with a pretty big smile with yellow colored braces and pretty, long black hair that fell below her shoulders like she didn’t care. (I do my rhymes well, don’t I?) Basically everything was pretty about her. But the coolest thing of all was she didn’t even know. Think you know who I’m talking...

The Tribal Pencil Case

POTATO Before I hopefully bid Ateneo de Davao good bye this March, allow me to introduce you to one of my best friends in school, my jumbo tribal pencil case! And that, my dear friends, explains the title of this post. Whenever people ask me if I have an extra pen or if I have a pair of scissors, I immediately light up, say yes, reach inside my bag and bring this thing out. And the moment they see this, they ask me that question. Whether you guys believe me or not, this is my pencil case and I do bring it with me every single day in school. It’s like a second “kikay kit” for me. It has everything I need for writing and taking down notes, from pens of every color, pencils, an eraser, ruler, highlighters and so much more! You have got check my pencil case out and meet my favorites! You may ask why in the world I choose to endure bringing such a heavy pencil case with me five days in a week. The reason is simple. Or maybe not. Lol! I’m a bit obsessive compulsive and because I am, I like things in order and it’s important for me to be “complete in everything”. Being OC is frustrating at times because I get to a point when I’m really tired already of keeping things straight when I’m cutting paper, or making sure that all the things I need are in my pencil case because I might need to punch holes on a paper today, or I might need to highlight important points in my...
