Laid Back Weekends

POTATO We all know how weekends were made for all those who have had unfinished business during the weekdays. But for some of us, they were made for rest, romance and recreation. Although I’m not sure how the romance part works for me, but I hope it works for you anyway! And the best thing for a girl to wear during weekends, out with her friends or running errands? Well, a good pair of shorts of course! You can get two pairs of good shorts for Php 150 in a lot of places here in Davao. Like in an MTS bazaar, Gaisanao Grand Ilustre, and in flea markets anywhere! 😉 Aside from my love for wedges, I also cannot deny my love for shorts! With the hot climate we have here in the Philippines, it’s every girl’s best option. But of course! Do not ever, and I do mean ever, ever forget to put on some sunscreen or make sure that your lotion has SPF so you could have fun and protect your skin at the very same time. On this day out with my good friends Nitish and Iresha, we were going to do a lot of things that’s why I kept my outfit light and breezy, so I won’t feel the stress of the busy day ahead of us. And so I could have some fun too! Even if I’m wearing shorts, I didn’t want to look too simple. So I opted for sparkling shoes from Solemate and an also sparkling vintage sling bag my father gave to my mother back when they were still dating. I know!...

2013’s First Wash Day

POTATO It’s the first wash day of the year! Whether or not it matters, I want to celebrate it by playing a game. And the game is called, “Guess how much my outfit costs?” Yes! I am at it again! This is going to be so much fun! I’m all up for classic looks. So I stick with everyone’s favorite neutrals: Black and White. But I don’t want to look “Too-Black-and-White” that’s why this look comes with a little twist. And the twist comes in the form of these fabulous cobalt blue jeggings. I’m really, really not a fan of jeggings but ever since I received this gift from my also fabulous Tita Lina (yes, she very much loves to give us fashionable gifts, I swear!), I somehow changed my opinion about them. They just go with my outfit perfectly! And the blue shade – so elegant. What’s even better is that they’re the kind of jeggings that don’t show any camel toe! LOL. I love how wash days give me an opportunity to express my style. But of course, there will always be rules that have to be followed. No, plunging necklines (as if I have anything to show. LOL), no short skirts, no off-shoulder or sleeveless tops allowed. And the best way to cover up when you’re wearing something that bares your arms – but still look good of course! – is to wear a cardigan. You can get them in lots of colors and shades but a white cardigan is something that every girl should have in her closet! ‘Cause it matches a lot of your different...

Shopping and My Biggest Dilemma

POTATO Someone once said that the best way for a girl to cure her broken heart is to go shopping and splurge. And somewhere down the road you’ll see that certain someone’s missing head hanged on a tree nearby because the girl she gave that advice to, did shop her heart out and because of that certain someone, she reached the credit limit of her third credit card and could no longer buy her twenty seventh pair of platform oxford heels. Sad story. But I’m just joking of course! But it could probably be true you know.. Like all other girls, I have my favorite mall where I go to all the time. But even if I love that mall, sometimes I can’t avoid heart-breaking moments. We all have those moments, right? Let’s say you walk into a particular store that you like, and you experience that magical moment when you spot something absolutely wonderful, let’s say it’s a dress, and then you immediately rush over to where it’s displayed because you just can’t take your eyes off of it and you can’t stand the distance between you and that garment.   You bring up your virtual or imaginary checklist: Color – check. Style – check. Fabric – check. Hem – check. Shape – check. Fit – check. And when you reach the bottom of that list, you see the word “price”. You look for the tag, and turn it over nervously.   And after that big reveal, you heave out a sigh because you have never seen as many zeros in your life! (Or maybe nines, if you live...

The Queen’s Guard

POTATO I know, I know. Weird title is weird. But it ain’t going to be anymore once you see my outfit! The red blazer, the navy blue skirt and the tan oxford peep-toes make me a close enough look-alike of a Queen’s Guard. You know those guys who guard the Buckingham Palace in London, without a trace of emotion on their faces? Yes. They are also those guys you saw on an episode of Mr. Bean whom Mr. Bean tries so, so hard to annoy but sadly cannot. But I’m not like those guards! I’m very expressive and it’s sort of hard for me to hide any emotion from my face. If I’m happy, I’m happy. If I’m puzzled, you’ll see I’m puzzled. *Winks* But even if I closely resemble the Queen’s Guard, I still think the colors of my outfit are in the spirit of the holiday season! Christmas day – I think – is just the perfect time to rock the gifts that the very special people in my life gave me. I wanted to go for a casual but at the same time classy look. To add a hint of class I wore this gorgeous red blazer I got from my Tita Leanette. At first look you may think I got this from a store or maybe ordered it online or something. But for those of you whose parents or who have relatives who worked or still works at Coca-Cola Davao, this blazer may probably look familiar to them. I can’t believe that something that looks as chic as this was once used as their uniform years...

Ate Mela’s Baby Shower

POTATO Last December 22, 2012, I experienced a first. I’ve never been to a baby shower before that’s why I was absolutely excited when my Ate Mela messaged me a month ago that she was coming home from Cebu to have her baby shower here in Davao. Before anything else, let me tell you a little back story about me and the fabulous mom-to-be. Before she became my English teacher, close friend, and now, “Ate”, she was my moderator for the First Year Publications, in Ateneo de Davao. It was funny how in our first meeting, the first thing that popped in my head when I saw her was, “Oh! So the pretty teacher with the always elegant clothes will be our moderator. What’s her name again? God, I’m such a first year.” And then she asked me what my nickname was. I didn’t expect this because you know, people usually ask for your first name on a first meeting. I told her that it was “Melay” and then she said, “Okay. I’ll call you Melay because my name is also Carmela.” I smiled and thought, “Cool.” Looking back, I can’t help but feel really happy about how things turned out, especially for her. Our friendship has come a long way! Things just happened so fast this year. From her bridal shower, to her wedding, and now her baby shower. She’s just so amazing and strong. That’s why I have no doubts about how her soon-to-be Baby Lucas Iñigo would turn out the same.   Now let me proceed with the fun that day. The baby shower was held at Café Andessa in Buhangin,...
