Summer Hangover

POTATO The month of June has ended but not the rainy season. And yet here I am still filling up my blog with summer #OOTDs and summer photographs. It most certainly cannot be helped considering we live in a tropical country! No matter how long the rainy season drags on, the beautiful beaches will still remain and the sandy shores of Samal Island will always be a place to be reckoned with! For this summer #OOTD, I wanted to show you guys another way to dress the part. Maxi skirts and dresses, shorts, rompers, palazzo or harem pants are some of our most loved pieces when we’re out by the pool or the beach. But who says denim on denim looks can’t have their time in the sun too? This chambray skirt from Forever 21 was the perfect match for a denim jacket. I threw in some of the usual summer colors: a floral blue bikini that I used as a cropped top and white strapped sandals for a really cool tropical effect. I also wore my favourite navy blue cap and brought this colourful Vera Bradley sling bag with me for a pop of personality! And if I may say so, the Vera Bradley sling bag is really one of the best sling bags that exist in this world! I mean, it’s really small but the compartments of this bag are so well-thought of and were really put in the right places. I can fit so much stuff in it including my summer essentials like my sunglasses and sunscreen! I really enjoyed my time in the sun with this #OOTD. Sometimes the...

Tropical Kanakbai

POTATO Every once in a while it’s good to take some time off from our busy routines and spend time with our loved ones. It’s seriously time to enjoy the beach and to put on those summer outfits! And this summer, my family or “the women of my life” (because my family really is all about women more than men) and I decided to spend our summer in Dahican, Mati Davao Oriental. Of the many beautiful resorts or houses to choose from in Dahican, we decided to stay in Tropical Kanakbai because of the peaceful and bohemian vibe of the resort. It’s what our all-girl getaway deserves and more! My aunt was able to stay here previously and said it was an ideal place for a big group or a family. It’s just approximately 9 minutes away from Subangan Provincial Museum (our previous destination) or 5.5 kilometers away. Excitement was building up as we were nearing the resort and when we arrived, it surely did not disappoint. It totally nailed “peaceful” and “bohemian” if you ask me! I learned that “Kanakbai” means “My Home” in Mandaya and it definitely felt like home. And how can you not live here? The amenities in the villas are complete, from a dining area, to a kitchen and living room area that just exudes comfort, elegance and a homey vibe. Kanakbai is so beautiful that I couldn’t help but take photos of even the tiniest details in the resort! So here’s an account of our Tropical Kanakbai experience: Above photo: The first floor living room Above Photo: (1 of 2) Bohemian Center Pieces Above Photo: (2 of 2) Another beautiful...

The Bikini Life

POTATO The second we reached our beautiful villa in Kanakbai, Dahican, Mati Davao Oriental, my sisters, cousin and I rushed to get into our bikinis to enjoy the wonderful day at the beach that awaits! As much as fun  as it was being on the road trip, still, nothing beats reaching your destination! The beachfront of Kanakbai is a little rocky but it is a beautiful and breathtaking view in itself, plus it makes a very dramatic background for an #OOTD. You just have to be a little extra careful though! Kanakbai is just a few minutes’ walk to the main beach with the “I Love Mati” sign and we did not waste time to get there and literally have fun in the sun! My friends warned me about wearing a bikini and swimming in the wavy waters of Dahican because the waves could get a little bit strong in some days and might earn me some cuts from the rocky shores, or worse, I might lose my bikini and never get it back! But with exaggeration aside, the waves were less powerful that day and once you overcome the rocks on the shore, you will feel nothing but the comfort of pure sand on your feet. Well occasionally, you will feel seaweed pass your toes by but you’ll find that you’re braver than you ever thought you were! The sun was bright, beautiful and surprisingly not painful! It was a day of forgetting your worries and basking in the beauty that nature has to offer. I will always be grateful for experiences like these and for the wonderful world we...

Road to Dahican

POTATO I just had the best weekend with my family in Dahican, Mati Davao Oriental. It’s actually my first time to visit the city and admittedly, I was beyond excited! It was a long 4-hour drive from Davao to Mati but with my mom and sisters with me in the car, good music and chips (say yes to chips on road trips!) it was bound to be a fun journey. Plus, we were on a convoy with my aunts and cousin. We were trailing behind their vehicle, or tried so hard to! Now that’s how you do an all-girl road trip! Anyway, our first stopover was in the Davao Oriental Welcome Park to get a few snacks and do our business so we could get on the road without anymore interruptions, if you know what I mean. (Yes, peeing in a decent public bathroom is actual business to me!) Being in the welcome park meant that we were already halfway to our destination. Aside from the park, one of the things we looked forward to seeing was the island that resembled a “sleeping dinosaur” which people never usually miss taking a photo of, or with (from afar that is). And after a hundred or more songs playing in the car, we finally saw it! We all stepped out for a bit  and became all giddy because it definitely was a sight! With the sleeping dinosaur off our list of things to see, we went on our way to Dahican, and on the way there, it was hard not to notice the big white building with beautiful bricked grounds. It was...

Hello Again, Chemas!

POTATO I’ve got weekends off twice in a row and I’m super ecstatic! Last weekend I went to Eden nature park with my family (read about it here) and this weekend I went to Chemas by the Sea (again!) with my sisters. We love Chemas so much because it’s the most accessible and one of the prettiest beaches Samal Island has! We couldn’t help but come back! The last time we visited Chemas was last November 2015. I was with my sisters Rosario and Frances, our cousin Bel and our family friend, Aryssa. (Read about it here.) This time around, it was just me and my sisters. We’ll all get to bond very soon though! What excited us to go back to Chemas was its white sand and clear blue waters. Plus the interiors are unique and makes you feel like you’re not just 20 minutes away from Davao City. It’s definitely one of our favorite places. This place called for a yoga tree pose. So here I go! We weren’t able to go swimming as much as we could the last time we were here because it rained and it was too cold for a dip! So we made sure we did for this sisterhood getaway. I mean, who wouldn’t want to go swimming in in a perfect day like this? Some people who were in the resort that time might have thought we were crazy because we took too many photos and kept on laughing together. That’s totally one of the purposes of being in a summer getaway with your sisters in the first place! Well, for us...

A Day of Adventures at Eden Nature Park

POTATO Every once in a while I get two days off from work in a week. Unlike you lucky folks out there, it rarely happens to me and when it does, I treasure these days more and make sure I spend it the best way I can. It’s been quite a long time since my last adventure with my family. It was probably back in 2013 when we went to Universal Studios Singapore. Talk about that being almost three years ago! Everyone just seemed to be very busy after that – my sisters with school and my parents and I with work. But it’s seriously time to take a break. It’s summer after all! So we decided to go somewhere where we could experience an adventure for a little while without hopping on a plane to another city. Just 45 minutes to an hour away from Davao City proper, is Eden Nature Park and Resort. I’ve been here quite a lot before but every now and then they add something new and exciting to the place that make people come back every single time. There were so many things my family and I wanted to try in Eden’s attractions and among these were: (1) The Sky Cycle; (2) The Sky Swing; (3) The Sky Rider; and (4) Horseback Riding. Too many people were lined up for the sky swing and we weren’t able to reach before cut-off time which was sad. But that certainly didn’t stop us from trying everything else! It was my first time on the Skycycle and it was definitely scary at the beginning when they open...
