Ate Mela’s Baby Shower

Last December 22, 2012, I experienced a first. I’ve never been to a baby shower before that’s why I was absolutely excited when my Ate Mela messaged me a month ago that she was coming home from Cebu to have her baby shower here in Davao. Before anything else, let me tell you a little back story about me and the fabulous mom-to-be.

Before she became my English teacher, close friend, and now, “Ate”, she was my moderator for the First Year Publications, in Ateneo de Davao. It was funny how in our first meeting, the first thing that popped in my head when I saw her was, “Oh! So the pretty teacher with the always elegant clothes will be our moderator. What’s her name again? God, I’m such a first year.” And then she asked me what my nickname was. I didn’t expect this because you know, people usually ask for your first name on a first meeting. I told her that it was “Melay” and then she said, “Okay. I’ll call you Melay because my name is also Carmela.” I smiled and thought, “Cool.”

Looking back, I can’t help but feel really happy about how things turned out, especially for her. Our friendship has come a long way! Things just happened so fast this year. From her bridal shower, to her wedding, and now her baby shower. She’s just so amazing and strong. That’s why I have no doubts about how her soon-to-be Baby Lucas Iñigo would turn out the same.

Now let me proceed with the fun that day. The baby shower was held at Café Andessa in Buhangin, Davao City. The beautiful café was owned by a very close friend of Tita Ging’s (Ate Mela’s mom). Her Mom, Dad, Aunts, Cousins, her pretty nieces and family friends were there to celebrate with her.  I went there with Joyce, my classmate and also a close friend of the mom-to-be. And guess what the theme was? Yes! Blue! Everything was just wonderfully decorated!

That centerpiece on the photo on the left was a gift from Ate Mela’s sister which she had custom made in Manila. Ate Mela also had such cute giveaways. Baby powder carefully wrapped and bowed in sky blue tulle and silver ribbons!

Red Velvet and Chocolate Cupcakes. Yum!

When she told me that it was going to be a blue-themed shower, I immediately knew what to wear: My indigo floral skirt and bright blue cardigan.

I wanted to look simple, fun and youthful. I didn’t want to wear too much accessories. So I stuck with my freshwater pearls instead.

To pull away just a little bit from the brightness of my cardigan and loud floral print on my skirt, I decided to go with neutrals: a beige handbag and taupe colored wedges. And by the way, wedges are the best heels to wear. My feet were stable the whole day and didn’t hurt one bit!

Overall, it was such a fun day. We had games and the food was just delicious! Congratulations Ate Mela! All the best to you and your family! :-)
